Athanasios Karasimos

Member of the Advisory Board - Game Linguist

Athanasios Karasimos is an Assistant Professor of Computational Linguistics. He is a graduate of the Department of Philology of the University of Patras. He holds two European Masters in Speech and Language Processing (one of them from the University of Edinburgh) and his PhD thesis is in Computational Morphology. He has been involved in several research projects on Modern Greek dialects, text corpora, aphasic discourse, Digital Humanities and English language teacher training. He was a postdoctoral researcher (4 times) with funding from the State Scholarship Foundation, The Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation  and the Academy of Athens. He has been teaching continuously at the Hellenic Open University, AUTH and the University of Athens  since 2012, undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as Educational Technology, Research Methodology, Computational Linguistics, Text Corpus and Morphology. He was a researcher (now external collaborator) at the national infrastructure for Digital Humanities DARIAH-GR / DYAS (Academy of Athens) - APOLLONIS. His research interests are focused on Computational Linguistics, Machine Learning, the use of text corpora, educational technology and the integration of computer and board games in language teaching and learning.

By participating in the Homo Ludens advisory board, he contributes to the creation of quality content and offers our ecosystem guidance on bridging the gap between the academic and technological environments in terms of game implementation.
